I wrote this article after being ispired by Sammie "Pee Wee" West and his various programs on the local public access channel in Buffalo, NY. He created and produced a number of different programs featuring talented young people from the east and west-side of Buffalo. These are areas where crime is the highest and usually the only events that attract a TV crew is bad news. Pee Wee sought to change this and wanted to tell the positive stories of what's happening in these neighbourhoods of the city. He believed that by putting a child on TV and celebrating their uniqueness and successes, that child was less likely to get into trouble. This article was published in an alternative newsmagazine a few months before Pee Wee passed away.
