The uncertainty of the economy combined with continuing concerns about the safety of our food has signaled the need for alternatives to the current food system. The goal of this project was to design the urbanFARMcart for people who want to start their own urban farm, whether it takes the form of a three foot by three foot plot, a multi-acre enterprise or somewhere in between. The objective of the urbanFARMcart project was to learn by doing, observing and absorbing. The blog, shows my design process, which included creating a 24 sq ft urban farm in an empty lot in Toronto. The resulting product and embedded system allows the user, or urban farmer, to plant, grow, harvest, and sell produce in the city in a way that is environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable.
